Since taking office, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration has lurched from one crisis to another, with a disturbing trend of suspending key appointees at the first sign of trouble. From the elected Local Government Councils chairmen and their Vice, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to the Chairman of the Local Government Commission. Also added to this ignoble list are Edo State Public Safety Response Team, the Edo State Security Corps and Edo FERMA. This government has shown an alarming lack of preparedness for governance.
Suspensions should be a tool for accountability, not a default response to administrative failure. The repeated sackings of officials suggest that either the governor lacks the judgment to appoint competent hands in the first place or he is leading a government without a clear direction. Edo people do not deserve an experimental government that blames its own team for its inability to lead.
True leadership is about proactive governance, sound policies, and effective crisis management—not ruling through reactionary suspensions. Senator Okpebholo must realize that governance is not trial and error. If his government cannot function without constant internal purges, then the real problem lies at the top.
Its not too late for him to tow the honourable path… step aside!
