The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly dismissed the claims made by former National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dan Orbih, regarding the purported dissolution and replacement of PDP Caretaker Committees in Edo and Bayelsa States.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Nehikhare, emphasized that Orbih lacks the authority to sack any excos, describing his statement as baseless and without constitutional backing.
“Dan Orbih is clearly running what can best be described as the APC arm of the PDP,” Nehikhare stated. “Only the national leadership of our party—the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC)—has the constitutional authority to constitute caretaker committees or organize congresses, from the ward level to the national convention.”
Nehikhare further explained that no congress has been conducted in the South-South zone to elect new party executives. Instead, the officially recognized structure in the region remains the Caretaker Committee led by Emmanuel Ogidi.
He added, “What Dan Orbih has done is set up a committee of friends—an unauthorized group with no legitimacy in our party structure.”
Nehikhare concluded that Dan Orbih’s recent actions align more with the interests of the APC than those of the PDP, noting that this unfortunate reality has been evident in his conduct over the past few months.
